The Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system is undergoing substantial change in the era of revolution 4.0 and globalization. In light of the rapidly growing technology, there are potential impacts and implications for technical and vocational education and trainings. The rapidly changing technology not only poses disruptions but also offers new opportunities in the world of TVET. These changes are inevitable and the opportunities are there to pursue. Series of successful UPI TVET Conferences from 2010-2018 had discussed and identified changes and challenges in areas of policies, skills and personal development, curriculum design, pedagogical innovations, and educational technology in TVET. Moving forward beyond the year of 2020, TVET system should ride the tide of this rapid technological advancement. Therefore, harnessing the growing technology to improve technical and vocational education and trainings is among the keys to excel in the region and beyond.

Due to Covid-19 pandemic, the world of TVET and TVET education delivery has undergone another substantial change. Countries around the world has tried to mitigate the effects of the worldwide spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the areas of TVET. Some countries have reported complete closure of TVET schools and training centers as a response to the spread of the pandemic.  Thus, all stakeholders in the world of TVET have concerted efforts to mitigate the impact to manage the transitional learning and training processes more effectively. Covid-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented rapid shift on online learning or distance learning in vocational training and education to ensure continuity of skills development. However, some challenges are faced by the TVET providers to facilitate distance learning for trainees. These are among the issues that need to be tackled by TVET stakeholders across the globe. TVET stakeholders, including TVET providers, need to have concerted efforts to address these emerging issues, on top of many other current issues in the world of TVET.

The 6th UPI International Conference on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (The 6th UPI TVET conference) is held in conjunction with The 5th International Conference on Innovative Education and Technology (5th ICIET RMUTT). This joint conference is organized collaboratively by Faculty of Technology and Vocational Education Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI, Indonesia) and Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT, Thailand). This scholarly activity is also within the framework of Regional Association of Vocational and Technical Education in Asia (RAVTE).

This joint conference also undergone some shifts in the planning process. This conference initially planned to be held on 16-18 July 2020 in Phuket, Thailand. Considering the unpredicted pandemic situation, this joint conference is postponed and modified to be held using online conference platform. The new date of this online conference is 16-17 September 2020.

This online joint-conference invites TVET scholars, researchers, practitioners, decision makers, students, and stakeholders from Asia and all regions of the world to share their knowledge, experiences, concepts, critical analysis, and good practices with their international peers. This online forum provides a conducive environment for knowledge and experience exchange among participating stakeholders. This is a great opportunity to share with TVET peers with the convenience of presenting online without having to travel outside one’s residence.

The 6th UPI TVET Conference’s focuses on strategies to cope with changes in technical and vocational education and training practices by taking advantage of the rapid technological advancement. The theme is more specifically incline toward leveraging technology application in TVET in the region and beyond. This theme is in line with the 5th ICIET 2020 which focus on innovative education technology. This joint conference discusses not only topics pertinent to vocational education and trainings, but also ICT and digital technology for education, innovation and engineering education, and educational pedagogy.  This conference is a conducive environment for TVET stakeholders to collaborate together to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 pandemic in TVET areas.

Abstracts and Submissions

Call for Abstracts

Authors are requested to submit an abstract to the Organizing Committee by August 20, 2020. Abstract must contain the following section: introduction, aim of the study, method, results, conclusion and keywords. The abstract must have no longer than 200 words. The abstract must be submitted through the conference submission system.

Abstract and Manuscript Submission

To submit an abstract, authors must register first (click here). Then they can submit their abstracts by logging in to this site (menu “Submission System” then “Login”). The manuscript (full paper) can be submitted only after authors submit their abstracts. The whole submission process is done fully online (NOT by email) to guarantee smooth administration.

Letter of Acceptance (LoA) and Letter of Invitation (LoI) can be downloaded directly from your account once your abstract is accepted to be presented at the conference.

The full paper must be submitted two weeks after the conference day (25 September 2020). Please go to “Submission System” menu then “Login” to submit the full paper.


Conference Publication

Abstracts and full papers are peer-reviewed by scientific committee members. After undergoing a thorough review process, selected papers will be published in the 6th UPI TVET Conference Proceeding, published by Atlantis Press indexed by Web of Science (or CRC Press indexed by Scopus).

As another option of publication, presented papers can be included in a non-indexed proceeding of ICIET Conference Proceeding published by RMUTT, Thailand.

Targeted Publication from UPI Affiliated Authors

This conference targets publications of more than 50 UPI Affiliated authors and presenters. Target for all participants of UPI TVET conference is 200 participants, ranging from students and general participants from UPI and TVET providers in South East Asia.
